More Rain

The locals tell us the incessant rain is the result of warmer ocean temperatures, which is then warming the air, allowing for more mosture, and changing the wind patterns. It’s another result of climate change. The result is rain every day since we’ve been in Auckland.

Some days have seen enough of a break to fit in some outdoor tennis. Coco Gauff played Rebeka Masarova in the WTA finals, which was delayed by an hour when rain hit just before the players were scheduled to walk on court. The players were greeted by a Maori Haka – I had wanted to see one!

A Maori Haka

Coco was serving with her first set point when the rain started again, this time for a 2 hour delay. When they started again, she finished it off in two sets. Kudos to her for staying calm with all the interruptions.

On to the men, who were able to get all their matches in yesterday.

Jenson Brooksby and Fabio Fognini

Different story today. We are getting the remains of a cyclone from the Pacific so all the matches are indoors. Howard is currently working the John Isner match.

When there’s a break in the rain, or it at least slows down, I’ve been out walking and hiking.

Not much altitude here, but the elevation change can be abrupt. My quads remind me they are working hard.

We’re heading to Melbourne at the end of this week and are still hoping for a couple of days to good weather to do a bit more exploring before we leave New Zealand.

We did manage to get a photo at the tournament
