Auckland Open Begins

The ASB Open runs 2 weeks – WTA (women) the first week and ATP (men) the second. Half of the women’s first round matches play today and Howard is working for the first time here.

The weather has been great so far – 70s, some clouds – but it looks like that will change. We’ve had a light mist this morning, overcast, winds picking up to more than 20 mph, and by Wednesday a high likelihood of rain. We’ll see how it goes, but I did buy 2 umbrellas this morning.

—- Later —–

After 3 rain delays, most of Monday’s matches were complete. Howard was on court, as were Madison Brengle, Caty McNally, Venus (no last name required).

Caty lost in 3 sets. Not Howard’s fault – her opponent hit a mean ball.
View toward downtown Auckland. Madison Brengle on the left.
Venus started out a bit slowly, but she can still play a power game. Hope to see her again in her next match.

Today’s lineup includes Coco, Sloane, some doubles. We may get some drizzle again today and then big rain Wednesday and Thursday. Not so good for tennis or other outdoor activities, but we do have umbrellas now :-).
