Zulu Nyala Day 3: Oct 4

Cats

Today we took a break from the morning safari, partly because our safari group was still drying out and warming up from the day before, and because we all wanted to go to the Cheetah Rehabilitation Center down the road.

They accept cheetahs, leopards, African wild cats, caracals, and other large cats that have been orphaned, started out as pets (oops), were injured, or for other reasons need a place to heal.  Some of them can be released into the wild, others are kept for breeding.

We could go into the cages with some of the cats – way cool!  Apparently if you feed the cats every day and don’t startle them or entice them into a chase, they are like house cats.  Sort of.

Caracal – those teeth could catch more than a field mouse.

The serval is a beautiful cat, very lithe.  Mind you, I’ve never heard of all these cats before this week – the serval has spots something like a leopard:

But it can also do-si-do –

Here’s are a couple of cheetahs again:

Definitely my favorite photo of the day!
